On last week’s performance show, Ryan Seacrest took a jab at Brian Dunkleman . . . who co-hosted the first season “American Idol” with him.
He joked, quote, “Quick update on ‘Idol Gives Back’: We will be coming to you from two venues. I’ll be handling the business here at this studio, and an all-star cast will do their bit live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
“And I can announce that Brian Dunkleman will host that portion of the show . . . I’m kidding, I’m kidding. That’ll be [lastfm]Queen Latifah[/lastfm]. She’ll be there to MC that.”
Well, Brian is NOT amused. TV.com somehow located Brian to ask him if he thought Ryan intended it as a slight, and Brian responded, quote, “Yeah, I think so, sure . . . but it was a joke.
“Well, it was an attempt at a joke. But unfortunately for Ryan, instead of a laugh, he got applause. That’s never really been his strong suit. But it was a joke, and whether it was mean-spirited or not is irrelevant.
“A joke’s a joke . . . you can either take it or you can’t.
“And quite honestly, once you’ve had Jimmy Kimmel say in a monologue that you should be punched in the face, and at this point you’d probably be receptive to a knife in the gut, I think what Seacrest said was pretty tame.” (Photo by Kevin Winter/ImageDirect)
