Maybe it’s because the premiere of the first Simon-less season of American Idol is just days away, but the recent words of host Ryan Seacrest have become decidedly sharper. And they’re pointed directly at former judge Cowell. Simon was “just so jealous of me,” Seacrest tells Entertainment Weekly.
“From Day One, he was envious of my career at such a young age,” the “Idol” host says.
Now, without Cowell in the picture, “it’s aged the show down a bit,” Seacrest says.
“There are less clouds of smoke. We start earlier. There’s less, what’s that English dish he always ordered for lunch? Shepherd’s Pie.”
To be fair, Seacrest also told the magazine that because Cowell had already done “Pop Idol” in Britain, the original cast including [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paula Abdul [/lastfm]and Randy Jackson “learned a lot from him.”
The new crew of judges, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jennifer Lopez [/lastfm]and Steven Tyler are “a more collaborative judging group,” says Lopez. “We discuss things. We just have a totally different style.”
