Frankly, it’s something the current crop of American Idol judges should have done by now, perform on the show. What a cool moment, right?[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Steven Tyler [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Lopez [/lastfm]singing side-by-side on the big Idol stage with Randy Jackson backing them on the bass guitar. Hey Simon Cowell, take that! Well, leave it to the brand new singing competition show, NBC’s  “The Voice” to do it first. Tuesday night’s premiere episode will feature the supergroup of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adam Levine[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Blake Shelton[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cee Lo Green[/lastfm]. And as you will see, this was a great idea…until Christina took the mike.

A writer of a respected music magazine did an article on the trend in the music industry towards over singing. The articles main point was that the empathis in the music industry has shifted from the song to the singer. Shows like Idol, X-Factor and The Voice not only encourage this practice but reward it. The oversinging craze is somewhat a reflection of the superficial “over importance of self” times we live in. I do believe though (or hope) that we have almost reached the end of the pendulum, and it will swing back the other direction.

Restraint, knowing when to give a song some breathing room can go a long way, though perhaps not on a reality TV show where you only have 3 minutes to make an impression with the judges and viewers at home.

I wish I could have put it that well. Kudos my friend! Scott
