With last night’s news about the death of Osama bin Laden, it got me thinking and wondering what everybody was doing on September 11, 2001.
Last night, at about 11:35pm, I turned on the TV to find President Obama giving some kind of speech. I thought, this must be important since he’s on at 11:30 at night. I look down to see the graphics and it said that President Obama announces that Osama bin Laden has been killed and his body was in US custody.
Several emotions came over me, anger, because to me, it brought up the thoughts of that day just under 10 years ago, and then my thoughts went to thinking this is a good thing. They caught the guy that took so many lives just on 9/11. Maybe this can be some kind of closure for the victims’ families and the country. Nothing will ever be enough when it comes to closure on such an appalling attack, but this may help to heal the still open wounds of a lot of the people directly affected.
That includes the troops overseas and that have been fighting in these wars for 8 years now. Props to them! If you know anyone serving or who has served, make sure you take the time to thank them.
Now, where was I on September 11, 2001? I was actually sleeping. I worked late the night before. I got up around noon to find my sister was home from school. I asked her what she was doing at home so early, she told me about what had happened in New York City and that they had an early dismissal at school because of the plane that went down in Shanksville, PA, being a little too close to home. So I immediately turned on the TV and couldn’t turn it off for weeks.
Where were you on September 11, 2001?
