Sexy soft rocker and Season 7 Winner of American Idol,[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] David Cook[/lastfm], just released a new video for his original song “The Last Goodbye” and announced that he was going back on American Idol to do a live performance of  the 1985[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Simple Minds[/lastfm] hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me).”

Cook has always had a super unique take on the covers that he does of any song; each song comes out sounding like a David Cook original.  In honor of his upcoming sophomore album, This Loud Morning, and his American Idol performance, we decided to do a retrospective on some of our Favorite Covers From David Cook.

10. “Hungry Like The Wolf” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Duran Duran[/lastfm])

Maybe he doesn’t have the sexy, synthy sound that Duran Duran had, but Cook’s rendition of “Hungry Like The Wolf” made us hungry for more.

9. “All I Really Need Is You” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Neil Diamond[/lastfm])

Neil Diamond is an incredibly prolific songwriter and certainly an idol for any up-and-coming singer-songwriter like David Cook.

8. “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” (originally sung by[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] U2[/lastfm])

Cook brought the audience to a screaming, incredibly enthusiastic standing ovation with his rendition of u2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”

7. “Little Sparrow” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dolly Parton[/lastfm])

We love that Dolly Parton says that Cook is singing her “favorite song.” We also love his re-working of the song to make it more suitable for a male voice. Oh, and we wish Dolly Parton was our life coach. She is just amazing.

6. “All Right Now” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Free[/lastfm])

With his gritty rocker charm, David Cook didn’t have to do much to make Free’s rock ‘n roll Americana hit “All Right Now” work with his voice and personality.

5. “Eleanor Rigby” (originally by the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beatles[/lastfm])

Not the best cover of “Eleanor Rigby” we’ve ever heard, but Cook made it his own and that’s something the Beatles would have been proud of.

4. “Billie Jean” (originally sung by[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Michael Jackson[/lastfm])

Our second favorite David Cook song reworking would definitely be his version of “Billie Jean” which sounded so completely different than the original–and almost as good.

3. “Hello” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lionel Richie[/lastfm])

Yes, David Cook. We do believe it’s us you are looking for. At least, we hope so.

2. “Always Be My Baby” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mariah Carey)[/lastfm]

We never thought we would ever hear a Mariah Carey song sung so expertly by a guy with a beard, but Cook made Carey swoon and definitely didn’t do a bad job on us either.

1. “Rolling In The Deep” (originally sung by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adele[/lastfm])

From his Las Vegas Pet-A-Palooza performance, Cook did a rockin’ rendition of Adele’s smash-hit song, “Rolling In The Deep.”
