JR Bubba Shelley got a ‘special’ visit from a special dog on Thursday as ‘Hector’, one of the pitbulls rescued from the dogfighting ring run by pro footballer Michael Vick. Despite his traumatic past, Hector was given a second chance by pit bull lovers Roo and Clara Yori. With help from his new owners, Hector was able to make a career change from gladiator to therapy dog. This sweet, loving, gentle guy is anything but vicious!
Hector has passed theAKCGood Citizen Test, the ATTS Temperament Test and he is a licensed therapy dog. Hector’s new job has taken him to schools, nursing homes, libraries and hospitals all over the country. He is a recipient of the Community Service in Humane Education Award from the Brooklyn Law School Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and his story has been featured on several national television programs as well.
Admission to the event is free and for a small donation, you can get your photo taken with Hector or receive a limited edition “Hector Takes Pittsburgh” T-shirt. Stick around after for a bite to eat and Emiliano’s will donate 10% of your check to HB and the WPHS. See you there!
