Though I won’t pretend to understand the pain that my gay co-workers have endured throughout their lives, I am thrilled to be working for a company that has embraced diversity and is willing to endorse this employee produced video.
CBS employees received this email message along with the video from co-worker Josie Thomas:
As communities across America celebrate Gay Pride Month, we’d like to share with you an incredible effort by employees of CBS to lend their own voices to the “It Gets Better Project,” which started off as an inspirational video message to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens to help prevent suicide and has since grown into a national movement, with scores of personalities sharing their own stories about growing up gay.
We’ve spent the last few months recording our own “It Gets Better” message from CBS employees, and I’m pleased to share that video with you today. It is honest and powerful, and meant to give hope to teens who are suffering because they feel – and are being treated – different. CBS is a company that respects and embraces all of its employees. We should all be proud of our colleagues for sharing their stories, and grateful to those who worked behind the scenes to make this happen.
The video will begin streaming today on Web sites throughout the CBS family, and we hope the public’s enthusiasm, support and encouragement gets it an even wider audience. I encourage you to watch and share it.
