Barbie & Ken: Top 10 Male/Female Musical Duets

Last week, one of the most interesting Twitter trending topics was “Barbie & Ken.” The Barbie and Ken dolls are considered one of the most iconic “couples” in history and many “fairytale” relationships are often likened to their symbolism.

We decided to put together a list of our favorite “Barbie & Ken” musical moments – i.e. male/female duets that just seem like perfect capsules of sound that represent each gender.

10. “(If You’re Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sara Bareilles[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Weezer[/lastfm]

Sara Bareilles’ pretty voice and sweet smile paired with Rivers Cuomo’s cheeky, yet nerdy disposition make them that quintessentially cute intellectual couple that always seems so appropriate holding hands.

9. “Half of My Heart”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]John Mayer[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taylor Swift[/lastfm]

We can’t see Taylor Swift in this video, but you can hear her girlish voice in the background, a perfect complement to John Mayer’s mellow rasp.

8. “Go Your Own Way” (by Fleetwood Mac)-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Carrie Underwood[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]David Cook[/lastfm]

Considered by many to be the two best contestants to come off American Idol, David Cook has proved an immensely popular musician this last year and his soft rock voice is an ideal match with Carrie Underwood’s country croon.

7. “Fast Car” (by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tracy Chapman[/lastfm])- [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kelly Clarkson[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Daughtry[/lastfm]

However, Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry might argue with the above statement, as they do a fantastic job covering Tracy Chapman’s song “Fast Car.”

6. “Whatya Want From Me?”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]P!nk[/lastfm] and[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Adam Lambert[/lastfm]

Both androgynous and glamorous (and with an apparent lust for eyeliner), P!nk and Adam Lambert show off their similar power pop vocals in “Whatya Want From Me?”

5. “Beautiful Lie”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Paige[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Nick Carter[/lastfm]

Former [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Backstreet Boy[/lastfm] joins forces with singer-songwriter Jennifer Paige. What ensues is a powerful combination of great songwriting and pop vocals.

4. “Wild Horses” (by the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rolling Stones[/lastfm])-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adam Levine [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alicia Keys[/lastfm]

We wish we could have given you Adam Levine’s duet with fellow voice judge,[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], but Levine and Keys do a fine job together covering the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” showing that Levine might indeed have “Moves Like Jagger.”

3. “You Do Something To Me”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Adele[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul Weller[/lastfm] from [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Jam[/lastfm]

Two stylish Brits get together and sing a riveting version of “You Do Something To Me.” Barbie & Ken might not have been from the United Kingdom, but we think Adele sure has those luscious Barbie-esque eyelashes of the original Barbie dolls.

2. “If I Ain’t Got You”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Alicia Keys [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Usher[/lastfm]

Alicia Keys is the queen of duets as evidenced by her sexy, sultry collaboration with R&B dance-god, Usher.

1. “Lucky”-[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jason Mraz[/lastfm] and[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Colbie Caillat[/lastfm]

Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz’ “Lucky” has always been one of our favorite modern duets. Even though they aren’t a couple, you can totally hear the love in their voices.
