Vanessa Carlton’s Master Class: Learn To Play “Carousel”
[pullquote quote="Carousel is a very simple song - one of the most simple songs I've written." credit="Vanessa Carlton"] [lastfm]Vanessa Carlton[/lastfm] didn’t always dream of being a famous musician. As a young girl she attended dance school, envisioning herself touring the world with a ballet troupe. Little did she know that the music lessons she was getting from her mom Heidi, an accomplished pianist and music teacher, would play a much larger role in her future career. Fast-forward to 2011 and we find Carlton as a platinum-selling artist, known the world over for songs like “A Thousand Miles” and collaborations with artists from [lastfm]Stevie Nicks[/lastfm] to [lastfm]Counting Crows[/lastfm].
Carlton jumped at the chance to share her experience and expertise for the Master Classes series, in support of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. Today we are extremely proud to present her music lesson, set to the sounds “Carousel” off her just-released fourth studio album Rabbits On The Run.
Vanessa Carlton’s Master Class: Learn to play “Carousel”
[pullquote quote="Don't need no golden ring - it would be no match for the love you bring." credit="from 'I Don't Want To Be A Bride'"]Rabbits On The Run represents a significant accomplishment for Carlton and her songwriting. Early reviews have praised her for the thought-provoking themes and lyrics, which go much deeper than the average pop song. “Tall Tales For Spring,” for instance, tracks Carlton’s fascination with the writings of physicist Stephen Hawking. Another single, “I Don’t Want To Be A Bride,” is a love song disguised as a lament against the trappings of marriage.
