A ‘Bridesmaids’ Sequel Without Kristen Wiig Is A Possibility
What would ‘Bridesmaids’ be without Kristen Wiig? We may find out, if Universal can’t convince Kristen to come back for a sequel to the hit movie.
With the huge success of ‘Bridesmaids,’ the question has arisen as to why Universal hasn’t started work on a sequel to the movie. The answer may lie at the feet of Kristen Wiig.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Kristen Wiig about a sequel to ‘Bridesmaids’ and she said, “We aren’t working on that. Annie and I aren’t planning a sequel. We are writing something else.”
Money could be an issue here. The first movie was made on a $32 million budget, but then brought in $288 million worldwide. The cast, was given a bonus of just $100,000 each. Some think that could be the reason the sequel hasn’t been started. The cast was insulted by the bonus, compared to the amount of money the film brought in.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Kristen if she was offended by the bonus, and Wiig declined to comment.
Producer, Judd Apatow, would love to move on and make a sequel, he said, “The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good or better than the first one. We don’t want to do it unless it can be great. I don’t think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this year.”
Apatow refused to discuss the cast, but a source said they don’t think he’ll proceed without the writers, Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s full participation.
So… ‘Bridesmaids’ without Kristen Wiig… thoughts?
