PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Police have identified the shooter who opened fire at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
Pittsburgh Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said at about 1:42 p.m. Thursday, John Shick, 30, of the Shadyside area, dressed in a tan type of trench coat, walked into WPIC and started shooting.
Stangrecki also confirmed the shooter had two handguns. He says the guns were traced to Texas and one of them was stolen. They have not determined if the second gun was also stolen.
University of Pittsburgh police responded within two minutes. Pitt Police Chief Tim Delaney says every officer is trained for these situations.
“We practice every six months [what’s called] active shooter training,” he said. “This is what we prepare for and hope it never happens. It happened.”
