Phillip Phillips Gears Up For A Busy Summer
As Phillip Phillips gears up for the upcoming American Idol Tour, he reveals details about his debut album and his special All-Star performance.
In a recent interview with Billboard, the latest Idol winner talked about working on his upcoming record, which he hopes will be out some time in November.
“We recorded a bunch of songs I wrote and I’d say we got some rough tracks coming along,” he said. “We’re going through them just to see — some parts may need to be fixed or we may need to switch a few things and I’ll re-write.”
The process of re-writing might take longer than planned with Phillip gearing up for the American Idol tour, which kicks off July 6 in Detroit, MI and keeps him on the road until the beginning of September.
Though the young singer isn’t against working with professional songwriters who might speed up the recording process, he wants to make sure his voice always comes through.
“I’m hoping I’m going to be able to at least write on every song for the album, ’cause it’s hard for me to connect with a song I had nothing to do with,” he explains. “Hopefully I’ll get to write half of a song with other writers.”
He also teased fans about who’s currently producing the record, saying he’s working with “a certain person,” who he declined to name. Phillips plans to continuing recording with this mystery person on days he has off from the tour.
Along with his busy Idol schedule, Phillips will perform his single “Home” at next week’s MLB All-Star Game. The special on-field concert will feature a tribute that highlights the tornado recovery efforts in nearby Joplin, Mo., and Tuscaloosa, Ala, where Habitat for Humanity is building nine new homes for low-income families.
