From Bubba Show
We know he was just named the National League’s Player of the Week for the second straight week and we know that he wears #22 when he’s playing for our Bucs. But there are probably some things you don’t know about this All-Star player. Check them out here.
1. Not just about baseball
Andrew played baseball, football AND track in high school.
2. But being an all around athlete comes with a price
Andrew was a wide receiver for his high school football team. He ended up tearing his ACL and MCL during a game and it caused him to miss his entire high school baseball season. But look where he is now!
3. What’s in a name?
His full name is Andrew Stefan McCutchen and he was born October 10, 1986. Of course his nickname is “Cutch.”
4. Remember your first?
Andrew hit his first walk-off home run on August 25th, 2009 off Brad Lidge of the Philadelphia Phillies.
5. When did he come to our fair city?
McCutchen was drafted by the Pirates in the first round of the 2005 amateur draft.
6. The accolades started coming early
Andrew was named the Baseball America Rookie of the Year for 2009 on October 16th. He finished fourth in the voting for the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
7. And the career was off and running
He made his debut as a Pirate on June 4th, 2009 at PNC Park. It was against the Mets and the Bucs won that game 11-6.
8. Hair is his thing
McCutchen once said he hasn’t cut his dreadlocks in four years! He has said he wouldn’t cut his dreadlocks for a million dollars but wouldcut them if it meant bringing home a World Series. I wonder if he ever washes them….
9. He doesn’t really have a big head
But because of his dreadlocks he says he probably wears a size 8 baseball hat. He says he also has to get it custom made to fit his head.
10. Rumor has it
A “source” (Bubba) tells us Andrew LOVES chicken tenders from Mullen’s!
