That’s me to the left in a photo taken in 1999 at an iconic Pittsburgh restaurant. Pat Monahan was playing with his band Train the next night at another iconic building, Graffiti in Oakland. Sadly that club closed a year later. I think it’s a car dealership now.
Train was in the middle of breaking their first single, “Meet Virginia” and Pat was kind enough and hungry enough (pun intended) to invite a group of radio and record folks (back when Pittsburgh actually had record stores like National Record Mart) to a dinner he was hosting.
What a great guy is was. It helped to learn that he grew up in Erie, PA not a Cleveland Browns fan (only minutes away), but a mighty Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was in with me for sure!!!
Alright, back to the restaurant in the photo. In an effort to help you identify this famous place, I was going to give you a series of clues. But the more I thought about it, the answer is obvious. You have to think about it though. Where would Pat Monahan of Train throw a Pittsburgh party? It could really only be one place. Can you guess correctly (in comments section below)?
By the way, Pat and the band return to Pittsburgh at a slightly more recent venue, Stage AE on August 29th. We have tickets and your chance to hang with Pat and Train backstage yourself this weekend. Guessing the restaurant above will win you nothing. Listening to 100.7 Star this weekend, may. Good luck on both counts.
