We know his “Gangnam Style” has gone viral…And we know he’s already got a record contract here in the U.S. But there could be some things you don’t know about Psy and his huge viral video.
1. Location, location, location
Gangnam Style is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district, an affluent area of Seoul.
2. Psy’s theory
He compares Gangnam to ladies. He says They’re “noble at the daytime, going crazy at night-and the lyric says I am the right guy for the lady who is like that.”
3. There’s actually meaning behind his work
Psy says the song is about “the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild.”
4. He’s not your typical pop star
He says the song is a satire of conspicuous consumption in South Korea…And that’s unusual for South Korean music, especially in K-Pop, which is known as bubblegum pop.
5. What’s in his name
His real name is: Park Jae-sang.
6. He’s already “kind of a big deal”
Over the weekend he was seen partying with Usher and Leonardo DiCaprio!
7. They just wanna have fun
He made a public plea this weekend for the city to rehire the 14 lifeguards fired for shooting a spoof of his viral hit “Gangnam Style” at the El Monte Aquatic Center. He said, “I’m begging you to do not fire (them) please, because they were just enjoy(ing) their souls with some other cultures,” Psy called out to El Monte officials during an interview on MTV on Friday.
8. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
In the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this past weekend, Psy appeared in a spoof of his own viral video, “Gangnam Style.”
9. It’s such a hit
It was no. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Songs Chart over the weekend.
10. It could be a big award winner
It was also just nominated for Best Video at the upcoming 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards which will be held in Frankfurt, Germany.
EVERYONE is doing “Gangnam Style”….EVEN Bubba! It’s actually kind of scary and nothing like what we first saw on Ellen’s show!
