American Idol Finals Week – Day 1 & 2 Recap
What a crazy trip it has been so far! It started yesterday with an early flight from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. I have been out of the country countless times but never to our own west coast, so needless to say it was like Christmas morning for me!
We arrived to Los Angeles yesterday around 1 in the afternoon—we quickly went to our rooms, changed from our parkas (it was 52 degrees when we flew out of Pittsburgh) to our shorts and sundresses, and hit the streets. Flick and I roamed around like tourists for a few hours- taking countless pictures and mingling with the friendly West coast locals.
Later in the night, we attended the Welcome dinner that FOX was throwing for all of the out of town radio station personalities that were in on American Idol’s behalf. We were wined, dined, and indulged in great conversation with radio legends from across the United States. This is my first press junket so I was very wide-eyed and bushy tailed when I got to meet some of the great men and women I have looked up to since I started in the business in 2009.
It was a great night had by all and an excellent start to such a fun trip!
This morning we reported at 9 a.m. to the Nokia Lounge in the Nokia Theatre in Download Los Angeles. We arrived at our broadcasting table to a brand new pair of Converse Chuck Taylors courtesy of FOX and So You Think You Can Dance…so cool! We then met with the engineers and got the opportunity to eat a delicious breakfast before the talent started rolling in.
Flick and I got to meet so many past and present Idols today – click here to see the photos! Angie Miller was the first interview—and definitely one of our favorites. She had such a glow about her and was so humble about the women who are still competing. We shared quite a few laughs with Curtis Finch, Jr. and learned that Mikalah Gordon (Season 4 contestant) has family in Pittsburgh!
These men and women have done so much press since starting Season 12 of American Idol this year and still remain so incredibly humble and personable when sitting down with us. I think American Idol truly has found the new generation of amazing, young talent.
All in all- the trip so far has been a whirlwind. Check back tomorrow for more updates and pictures! I can’t wait to share with you guys!
