Dear Scott:

Someone I work with bragged to me that they secretly wired the security TV monitors so they could watch television at night. An engineer discovered the jerry-rigged system and our boss questioned all of us about it. After I said I didn’t do it, he asked me if I knew who did. I said I did, but didn’t think it was my place to rat out a co-worker. I was then told I was just as responsible as the offender because I knew about it and didn’t report it. I would agree if what this person did was potentially harmful to the rest of the staff, but that was not the case. Because my job was at risk, I told my boss who did it and that co-worker was ultimately let go. I feel horrible and think my boss was wrong to put me in that position. Am I right or is my boss?

Who do think is right?
