Adele, Janelle Monae Address Orlando Shooting

By Annie Reuter

Adele, like many musicians, was devastated by the shooting at an Orlando, Florida night club over the weekend. The singer shared her prayers with the victims’ friends and families at her concert in Antwerp, Belgium last night (June 12) by dedicating her show to the city.

“I would like to start by dedicating this entire show to everybody in Orlando and at Pulse nightclub last night,” she said at the start of the concert. “The LGBTQI community, they’re like my soul mates since I was really young, so I’m really moved by it.”

Noticeably choked up, she then turned her face from the audience, holding back tears.

Adele wasn’t the only artist to share her condolences with those in Orlando. Janelle Monae also spoke about the deadly shooting during her set at the Playboy Jazz Festival last night.

“There was a deadly tragedy in Orlando due to hate and ignorance,” Monae told the audience at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. “I want to be clear which way I stand. I want freedom, respect and love. If you do too, make some noise. As human beings, we must protect each other. If God is love, are you love?”

Earlier in the day, festival host George Lopez also acknowledge the tragedy.

“We’re sending love and sympathy to the families in Orlando,” he said. “Love conquers hate. One love.”
