Hundreds of mourners gathered in Evesham, New Jersey at Marlton Memorial Sports Complex last night (June 13), to remember Christina Grimmie. The vigil included emotional speeches by friends and family, each of whom praised the singer for her love of her family, friends and faith, reported Billboard.
Many wore “Team Grimmie” shirts designed for the evening. Candles were handed out, but there were so many mourners there weren’t enough shirts for everyone.
“Christina was awesome…She loved this town, she loved this state, she loved singing, she loved the Lord and she loved me and she was just my baby sister,” Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, said.
Marcus shared his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the music community, including Adam Levine, who coached Grimmie while she was on The Voice and offered to pay for the funeral, and Twenty One Pilots and Selena Gomez, both of whom who paid tribute to her in concert.
“She’s in a better place,” he said. “Thank you to everyone once again. I wish I could elaborate more, you guys didn’t know her like I did, so thank you.”
Grimmie was shot and killed over the weekend while signing autographs after her concert in Orlando, Florida. The gunman, Kevin James Loibl, also killed himself.
